Izhevsk is a large industrial, cultural and scientific center, the capital of Udmurt Republic, situated in the European part of Russia between Volga and Urals with the population more than 650 000 people.

The city has developed market infrastructure, modern system of transport communications: railway junction, airport, automobile arterial roads.

Izhevsk was founded in 1760. From it\\\'s very beginning till present time the industry of Izhevsk was focused on defense types of arms production. By the middle of 19th century the city turned into an important industrial center of pre-Urals region and produced steel of very high quality, arms, hunting guns and rifles of diff erent kinds.

During the 2nd World War Izhevsk became famous as a rifle producer. After the war end plants and factories of Izhevsk became to work up and then produce the Kalashnikov automatic machine-gun. Its legendary designer, leuthenant-general Mikhail KALASHNIKOV is Honorary Citizen and resident of Izhevsk. Izhevsk arms school is considered to be one of the best all over the world.

During two centuries and a half the basis for economical development of Izhevsk was power-consuming industries - machine-tool construction and metallurgy. At present the industrial complex of Izhevsk is presented by fifty large enterprises producing equipment for fuel and energy complex and agrarian-industrial complex, machinery with digital program management, reducing transmissions, bearings, cars and motoblocks, all types of rifles, metal and metal-roll, complex systems of space communication and electronic equipment, medical and domestic devices, plastic articles, military equipment and many other types of production.

In the list of Izhevsk enterprises partners there are companies from seventy countries of the world. More than 150 companies with foreign investments are registered in the city.

Izhevsk is known for its great educational, intellectual and scientific-research potential. Scientific investigations in the fields of physics, economics, environment, land tenure, development of social sphere of the city are held in twenty three scientific centers of institutions and universities. The professional training of specialists is held by four state universities, three private universities and ten colleges.

A modern system of medical service is established in Izhevsk: cardiology clinic, center of neurosurgery, ophthalmology are in the list of the leading centers of Russian Federation.

In the area of Izhevsk there are about 500 sport units, including 5 stadiums, 158 sport complexes and gymnasiums, 20 swimming pools, modern biathlon complex. Different international competitions are held in Izhevsk. Names of Izhevsk athlets are well-known all over the world - Galina KULAKOVA, Tamara TIKHONOVA, Valery MEDVETSEV, Alexei CHIZHOV and many others.

To the service of guests of Izhevsk there are more than 20 comfortable hotels, including prestigious hotel complexes “Park-Hotel”, “Pine forest”, "Okolitsa" and many others.

Izhevsk has a rich cultural life. Five theatres, four concert halls, sixteen palaces of culture and clubs, fifty libraries, twelve art schools for children, six cinemas and six museums function here.

In Izhevsk there are four parks for rest and entertainment: Child\\\'s Park, Gorky\\\'s Summer Garden, Astronauts\\\' Park, Kirov\\\'s Park.

In 62 km from Izhevsk to north-east of Udmurtia the city of Votkinsk is situated. It is a place where the greatest russian composer P.I.Tchaikovsky was born and spent his childhood. In Votkinsk there is a composer\\\'s memorial estate. Every spring different music festivals devoted to P.I.Tchaikovsky\\\'s creative works are held there.

Since 1991 Izhevsk is open for foreign contacts. The city has officially established twinning relations with Tatabanya (Hungary), Lusaka (Zambia), Bedzin (Poland), Yambol (Bulgary) and Xining (China). We are ready to cooperate with other cities also.
