Memorial plaque in honor of Mikhail Kalashnikov was opened in Izhevsk

On November 10, the birthday of the outstanding armourer Mikhail Kalashnikov, a memorial plaque with a bas-relief was opened on Sovetskaya Street, 21a, where the small arms designer lived from 1971 until 2013.

The solemn ceremony was attended by Alexey Prasolov, the Chairman of the State Council of the Udmurt Republic, the metropolitan of Izhevsk and Udmurt Republic Viktorin, Elena Kalashnikova, the daughter of the armourer, Dmitry Chistyakov, and the Acting Deputy Head of Administration of Izhevsk on social policy, and also colleagues, friends, armourer veterans and citizens.

The decision to place a memorial plaque was taken at a meeting of the city committee to promote the protection of historical and cultural monuments, the naming and renaming of streets, lanes and stopping points on July 2 this year.

The author of the memorial plaque and bas-relief was Vladimir Kurochkin, the creator of the sculpture of Mikhail Kalashnikov at the entrance to the museum named after him, as well as the bronze busts of Dmitry Ustinov and Mikhail Kalashnikov placed in Victory Square, near the Eternal Flame.

Coordination of the financing of the project was assigned to the Inter-Regional Public Fund of M.T. Kalashnikov. Funds for its implementation were sent to the enterprises included in the Industrial and Economic Association of Udmurt Republic "Development".

Elena Kalashnikova, President of the Inter-Regional Public Fund of M.T. Kalashnikov, noted that the opening of the memorial plaque was a worthy start to the festive events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding small arms designer, which are scheduled for 2019.
