The Russian Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness

The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity became the massive holiday in 2008, which was announced as the Year of the Family in our country. The holiday was established in Russia on the initiative of the deputies of the State Duma. The initiative to celebrate this day is supported by all traditional religious organizations in Russia. The idea of the holiday itself arose among the residents of the city of Murom in the Vladimir region, where the relics of the holy pious Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia – patrons of the Orthodox family, love, and well-being in marriage – are buried. Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom are an example of matrimonial fidelity, devotion, and love that they have preserved throughout their life, overcoming all trials and temptations. The Saints were canonized in the 16th-century cathedral. With their prayers, they reduce the heavenly blessing to those who enter into marriage. The memory of the holy couple is set for July 8th. The holiday has its own symbol – chamomile. From the ancient times, this flower was considered to be a symbol of love in Russia. Every year the popularity of the holiday grows, including our Udmurt Republic and the city of Izhevsk. Within the framework of this holiday in 2011, the Bench of Reconciliation was installed on the territory of St. Michael's Cathedral, and a year later a monument of St. Peter and Fevronia was opened.

Every year on July 8th, the Russian Federation celebrates the Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness. Within the framework of the holiday, the families are rewarded with the medal "For Love and Faithfulness".

On that day on the area of the Saint Michael's Cathedral, a ceremonial event took place. 20 married couples of the Udmurt Republic who have been happily married for 25 years and more were presented for the award.

Also, many public events took place near The Church of Saint Seraphim of Sarov, in the Zoo and in the cinema.
