On the 28th -29th of July 2017 the Head of the City of Izhevsk Mr. Yuri Tyurin participated in the festive events devoted to the 73d anniversary of Brest liberation from Nazi invaders and the City Day «Berestie-2017». The delegation from Izhevsk included the deputy of the City Duma of Izhevsk Konstantin Kotov and the Head of the Finance Department of Izhevsk City Administration Guzaliya Nurmukhametova.

Since 2015 two cities Izhevsk and Brest are implementing a large-scale project over organizing mutual visits of students from the cadet corps of the cities of Izhevsk, Votkinsk and Brest in order to promote significant values of patriotism and respect towards History among the youth. The fact that the Head of the City of Izhevsk participated in the memorable events dedicated to the 73d anniversary of Brest liberation from Nazi invaders emphasized historical connection between Russia and Belarus and the idea that today the great attention is paid to the questions of patriotic education. Mr. Yuri Tyurin: «28th of July is the Day of Brest liberation. I took part in the festive events. The most patriotic thing was the beginning of the city celebration when we laid flowers to the monuments of war. Veterans of war, heads of enterprises, representatives of diplomatic missions and governmental institutions pay tribute to those who liberated the city 73 years ago. In 2016 Izhevsk and Brest signed a sister agreement. This year our students stood as a part of the guard of honor in the Brest Fortress. This event left indelible impression. The best of our young Izhevsk citizens will be sent there on the regular basis.»

25 delegations from 7 countries took part in the events dedicated to the 998th anniversary of the City of Brest foundation including Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Georgia and Poland.
