New Federal Education Standard makes second foreign language an obligatory part of the school program
Since the 1st of September, 2015 pupils starting from 5th grade arestudying according to the new Federal Education Standard, which makes second foreign language an obligatory part of the school program. Educational institutions that are not ready to immediately start teaching the second foreign language, are given time to prepare for the changes.
Every region will be able to use a differentiated new standard for 5-9 grades education. For example, schools with developed infrastructure and high demand for the second language will have the opportunity to include it in the program sooner, while some educational institutions will need more time. The adaptation period time frame is not limited yet. Schools will choose time to start teaching the second language as soon as they are ready.
Many schools included second foreign language in their program before launching the new Federal Education Standard. The overall education hours will remain at the same level.
