12 June 2015 - Festive celebrations dedicated to the 255th anniversary of the city of Izhevsk

On June 12th, 2015 the city of Izhevsk celebrated its 255th anniversary. The holiday started with the festive meeting and the flower-laying ceremony to the monument of A.F. Deryabin, the founder of Izhevsk weapons factory. Later on a festive event dedicated to the Day of Russia took place at the Monument of Peoples’ Friendship. There was a theatrical parade “One city is one history” over Pushkinskaya street, where district city Administrations, enterprises, educational institutions, as well as city children’ collectives actively participated.

The following officials took part in the festive events dedicated to the 255th anniversary of the city of Izhevsk: the Chairman of the Udmurt Republic Government Victor Savelyev, the Chairman of the State Council of the Udmurt Republic Vladimir Nevostruyev, the Chief federal inspector in the Udmurt Republic Dmitriy Musin, the Head of the city of Izhevsk Alexander Ushakov, deputy Head of Izhevsk City Administration Sergey Klimov, representatives of the official delegation of Brestskaya oblast, Republic of Belarus, representatives of the delegation from the city of Xining (Peoples’ Republic of China), members of the State Council of the Udmurt Republic and the Izhevsk City Council, representatives of the Udmurt Republic Government and municipal government, Honourary Citizens of Izhevsk, representatives of the Public Chamber of Izhevsk, non-governmental and cultural organizations, and labour collectives.

«It is symbolic that we celebrate Izhevsk City Day together with the main national holiday – the Day of Russia. The history of the capital of Udmurtia is unbreakingly intertwined with the strenghthening of our State. The City’s Anniversary is the favourite holiday of Izhevsk people. This is the day when we feel our involvement in the history of Izhevsk, its past, present and future”, - said the Head of the City of Izhevsk Alexander Ushakov, - there are more than 100 nationalities living in Izhevsk, the city has rich cultural and folk traditions. The city is growing with every year – city population has reached 642 thousand people. Last year 10 000 babies were born. People from every corner of Our Land of Springs and other regions come to work and live in Izhevsk. This is an indicator of the attractiveness of Izhevsk, its strong economy and good prospects. The capital of the Udmurt Republic builds new houses, improves courtyards and roads, builds sport facilities and kindergartens and promotes socially important projects.

Every year on the City’s Anniversary citizens, representatives of enterprises, organizations, public associations and art collectives prepare unforgettable performances that create a bright, impressive and emotional parade. It is a sincere expression of the positive feeling of the City and respect to its history, - said the Head of the City Alexander Ushakov.

On 12th June the festive events were held on the open spaces of Izhevsk. For the first time the festival included “Children City’s Anniversary” on the spaces behind the Government House and on the Nagovotsina st. The “Velograd” space on the Central Square attracted visitors with the cyclists’ performance. The “Literature Arbat” project was developed by the city’s libraries. The Nagovitsina street near the National Kuzebai Gerd Museum became a “Health Street”.

The best musical bands of the city performed on concert spaces, including the surprise for the people of Izhevsk – the acclaimed Turetzki Choir on the Central Square.

The last event was a 10-minutes firework show above the pond as well as in Ustinovskiy district of Izhevsk.
