9 May 2015 – festive events dedicated to the celebrations of the Victory Day in Izhevsk
Оn May 9th, 2015 Izhevsk celebrated the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Festive events started with the flower-laying ceremony to the Monument of Honour and Labour Glory in the Victory Square.
The Head of the Udmurt Republic Alexandr Solovyov, acting Chairman of the Government of the Udmurt Republic Andrey Sivtsov, the Chairman of the State Council of the Udmurt Republic Vladimir Nevostruyev, the Chief Federal Inspector in the Udmurt Republic Dmitriy Musin, the Head of the city of Izhevsk Alexandr Ushakov, NGO representatives, war veterans, homefront workers and other Izhevsk inhabitants took part in the event.
A traditional Victory Parade was held at the Central Square of the city, representatives of military-patriotic associations, military elements, power stuctures, Izhevsk enterprises formed orderly columns while marching along the Pushkinskaya Street.
The Victory Parade was ended with the march “Immortal Regiment”. The descendants of those who participated in the Great Patriotic War joined the ceremonial parade holding the portraits of their family heroes.
After the Parade the annual 66th field and track “Relay for Peace” took place in the Pushkinskaya Street that was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Head of the city of Izhevsk opened up the relay. It was started with the Memory Race, veterans of sports, junior sportsmen and track fans being its active participants. A total of 70 teams from schools, colleges, universities, sport clubs and enterprises of the city of Izhevsk and more than 3 thousand participants and spectators took part in the competition.
Festive events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War were also organized in other city areas – the Cosmonauts Park, the Udmurt Zoo,the Summer Garden n.a. Maxim Gorky, the Park n.a. S.Kirov and others.
The Victory Day concluded with an open air concert at the Izhevsk pond embankment and the fireworks followed after it.
