First All-Russian Forum of live cities Urbanfest

From 21st to 23rd of May, 2014 the First All-Russian Forum of live cities Urbanfest took place in Izhevsk. Urbanfest is an informal work platform for dealing with issues connected with an integral city development.

The event gathered leading experts from Russia and CIS and provided them with an opportunity to exchange opinions on various projects’ implementation with an aim to create horizontal connections and to work out new mechanisms of collaboration.

The First All-Russian Forum of live cities was a really significant event for Izhevsk. Participants of the Forum shared the best practices in terms of city development solutions that formed a basis for future work.

Head of the city of Izhevsk Mr. Alexander Ushakov underlined: “We want people to stay in Izhevsk instead of leaving it for other cities. What do we have to do to make our city attractive for various groups of residents? We should develop city environment, construct new objects and pay attention towards the way city community lives”.

In the Forum’s activities foreign experts representing such organizations as the Integral City Institute (Canada), Uberbau (Germany), UN Habitat along with partners from Holland took an active part.

In total about 150 people from 25 cities including 30 experts from 6 countries participated in the All-Russian Forum of live cities.

Within the frames of the Forum a new Izhevsk logo was presented. It is a word “IZHEVSK” written in different colors where “Ж”-letter (ZH) is replaced by solar sign – an Udmurt symbol of an amulet.
