14.09.2013 The Red Festival
Since 2004 the unique project – the Red Festival – is being realized in Izhevsk. The project is aimed at creation of new cultural public image of the city, at development of interethnic collaboration, dialogue and partnership between city communities and ethno-cultural organizations.
Why the festival is called the red one? A scientific hypothesis runs that the Udmurt nation is the most red-haired in the world. Only Irishmen can present a competition here.
Today the project became really popular among representatives of various ethnic groups living in Izhevsk and the Udmurt Republic. The whole families come to Izhevsk from districts of the Republic to become a part of the festival.
The Red Festival 2013 has its own personage – a fox cub that was printed on the festival billboards, flags and souvenirs.
The Festival was preceded by the Red Week at city kindergartens, comprehensive and supplementary educational institutions. Besides that, on 12th of September the Tram of Sunny Mood was plying across the city.
The principle festive events took place on 14th of September in ten various grounds of the city.
The opening of a new 1 kilometer 200 meters long bicycle road across the Kirov street became one of the opening events of the Festival. It was followed by the bicycle parade “Gingers on the wheels”.
The ethnic ground “Shundy kar” and the photo salon “If you aren’t red haired – become now!” were functioning at the Cosmonauts’ park. Moreover, the landscape art competition “Land-art”, the final of the Festival of variety art “The Red Melody”, the beauty contest “Zlatovlaska” (“Golden-haired girl”) and many other events took place there.
In the Izhevsk Central square citizens and guests of Izhevsk had an opportunity to participate at “The Red Fair”, to enjoy the project of a studio “Above the rainbow” called “The Breath of a heavenly dew” and the dance flash mob, or to observe the final of another beauty contest “The Red-haired Beauty”.
The show of a famous Russian artist Gosha Kutsenko and the band “GK” in the Central Square became the main attraction of the evening.
