On June 12 Izhevsk is celebrating the Day of the city. It is the principle city-wide holiday that always gathers thousands of Izhevsk dwellers at the Central Square.
Program of festive events is really rich and diverse.
On June 11 the traditional Choral Assembly near the Alexander Nevsky cathedral where the principal choirs of the city present their vocal mastery will be organized.
On June 12th a solemn mass meeting and artistic procession will take place along with various concerts and shows at different city grounds. Besides that, a tradition of organizing health consulting straight in the streets within the project “Street of health” will be continued. The Izhevsk city day will present its inhabitants opportunities to attend exhibitions and art-markets, to participate in competitions and contests both for children and adults.
Besides that, on 12 of June the Udmurt national holiday “Gerber” will be celebrated. This event is dedicated to an end of spring field work. Its name has its origins in the word “gery” which means “a plough”. Since 1994 Izhevsk has been celebrating it at the “Berezovaya roscha” park (“Birch grove”) in the territory of the Industrialny city district. It is becoming more and more popular among Izhevsk citizens every year. Special grounds for different groups of population are functioning during the event. The traditional entertainment of holiday’s guests with ceremonial porridge will take place.
The Day of Izhevsk will have traditional fireworks as its bright final.
