Izhevsk State Medical Academy

The fundamental aim of the Izhevsk state medical academy (ISMA) is training of advanced-level medical specialists. The main tasks are teaching, implementation, maintenance and development of scientific research, research of more effective forms of cooperation within the health care system in the new economic conditions, and maximizing the academy's resources for the improvement of the public health in the Udmurt Republic.

Today the medical training has a gradually successive strictly differentiated system of medical training, consisting of: preparatory course, basic undergraduate education, postgraduate and professional training. Over the course of 75 years the academy has trained more than 21 500 doctors and nursing managers. The academy currently enrolls over 2 500 students, including foreign students. The best traditions of Russian medicine are supported and developed by the Medical Academy.

Faculties

 

Today there are 6 faculties with 52 departments in ISMA. 422 professors and lecturers work at the Academy, among them 67 Doctors of Medicine and 239 Candidates of Medicine. Defenses of 127 theses for Degree of Candidate and 38 theses for Degree of Doctors are planned. The academy currently enrolls over 2500 students, including foreign students.

 

The faculties are:

·        the faculty for undergraduate training;

·        the general medicine faculty;

·        the pediatric faculty;

·        the dentistry faculty;

·        the nursing faculty;

·        the faculty of post-graduate and professional training (internship and residency).

 

ISMA is licensed for training students in the following specialties:

·        General medicine (6 years);

·        Pediatrics (6 years);

·        Dentistry (5 years);

·        Nursing (6 years).

 

International department

 

International activity of the Izhevsk State Medical Academy had started in 1989 from organization of Association of Medical Students, Young Researches and Doctors of Izhevsk (ASMI). Its activity is aimed at improving professional skills of students, young researches and doctors.

International cooperation with different countries is an important part of Izhevsk State Medical Academy's activity. Much is done to organize international exchanges of students and young doctors. During 20 years more than 200 students from USA, Italy, Germany, Greece, Austria, Romania, Turkey, Spain, Finland, Denmark, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Brazil, etc. participated in medical clerkships at the academy. More than 300 students and young scientists from Izhevsk State Medical Academy participated in exchanges in other countries (Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Spain, Austria, Finland, Hungary, Egypt, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Norway, Turkey, Holland).
