Preschool education

Nowadays, the number of preschool-aged children in Izhevsk experiences increase. Therefore, the necessity in preschool education services grows as well.

Activities on implementation of the Program on putting into operation of nursery schools that are subjects to repairs and reconstruction that is realized under the guidance of the President of the Udmurt Republic Alexander A. Volkov allowed to bring 1224 places in municipal preschool educational institutions into service in 2008. As a result, the provision of pupils with places in preschool institutions is 77%, and this indicator in the Udmurt Republic significantly overtops the one of the Russian Federation in general.

More than 33 thousand of pupils attend 222 preschool educational institutions in Izhevsk.

The Departmental target program “The development of the system of preschool education in Izhevsk for 2009-2010” aimed at guaranteeing of stable development of this system and its quality growth is now realized in Izhevsk.

General secondary, special, higher and supplementary education

Single educational area is a base for provision the capital of the Udmurt Republic with state guarantees of education accessibility and adaptability of the educational system to the peculiarities of pupils’ development and training. About 60 thousand of students study at 102 institutions of secondary education in Izhevsk. The system of institutions of higher level includes 11 lycées and 3 gymnasiums. Moreover, 11 secondary comprehensive schools with profound study of various courses successfully function as well.

To put into effect the Russian Federation law “On the languages of Russian Federation nations”, the Udmurt Republic law “On the state languages of the Udmurt Republic and other languages of the nations of the Udmurt Republic”, and to satisfy national and cultural requirements of the population, to strengthen and improvement of national comprehensive school the plan on pupils’ national education is developed and realized annually. The Udmurt language is studied in 17 educational comprehensive institutions and the Tatar language is taught in 8 schools.

4 state institutions of higher education train the specialists in the capital of the Udmurt Republic: The Udmurt State University, The Izhevsk State Technical University, the Izhevsk State Medical Academy, and the Izhevsk State Agricultural Academy. Besides that, some non-governmental universities, 13 professional secondary educational institutions and 12 institutions of primary professional education also offer their services to the population of the Republic.
